mohanlalganj: Teenager dies as police SUV hits his vehicle | Lucknow News

Lucknow: A teenager died while his father was seriously injured when a police vehicle hit their two-wheeler in the Mohanlalganj area in the early hours of Saturday.
Later that evening, relatives of the family staged a protest in the SGPGI area demanding action against the cops and compensation for the family.
The youngster, Raunak Pandey (17), succumbed to his injuries while his father, Ajay Pandey (44), is in critical condition and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the SGPGI area.
In his FIR, Raunak’s uncle, Sanjay Pandey, said an official blue-coloured police jeep, with the Lucknow Police Commissioner embossed on it, hit his nephew’s two-wheeler in the area of Mohanlalganj Friday at midnight.
“Raunak and my brother came to drop me off. We were waiting for an auto rickshaw when suddenly a police vehicle rammed them,” Sanjay said.
He alleged that the cops in the vehicle, including the driver, were intoxicated. “There were at least 4-5 cops in the vehicle, including a driver, a sub-inspector, a diwan. Even a sub-inspector and the driver were injured,” he added. Sanjay said the police took the injured to Mohanlalganj community health center.
“They threatened my brother and my nephew saying that if they complained about the incident, they would be placed in a case and sent to prison. We were scared and left the CHC. We went to the center of SGPGI trauma. At around 2:30 a.m. when my nephew’s condition started to deteriorate, he was referred to KGMU where he succumbed to his injuries in the morning,” he said. Anjita Pandey, sister of the deceased, said Raunak was his only brother.CPA Mohanlalganj Vijay Kumar Singh told TOI that the accident happened with the police vehicle, but dismissed claims that the cops were in a state drunk.
A case of reckless driving and causing death by negligence has been filed against the driver of the vehicle, but remains anonymous as the family has not named anyone.
